mealsCooked meals including a vegetarian option, are prepared daily and children are offered a choice of main courses and desserts. Salads, Bread & Fruits are always available. North Kesteven Kitchens provides the food which meets Food Standards Criteria.

The cost of a school meal is £2.20. We are happy to accept payment for the day, week, month, half-term or term. Cheques (made payable to Birchwood Junior School) or cash should be placed in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the pupil's name and class and handed to the school office. It is vital that school meal payments arrive at the school office before 9:30am.

Some people like to choose a mix of school dinners and packed lunch for their child - that's absolutely fine. Just let the school office know which days you'd like a school meal.

Free School Meal

Free school meals are available for some children according to their family circumstances.

It's important to register for entitlement to free school meals, even if your child has a packed lunch - this is so we can receive additional funding (called pupil premium) which we can use to help your child.

Children entitled to Free School Meals if their parents, carers or guardians receive any of the following:

 ▸ Income support.

 ▸ Income-Based Job Seeker's Allowance.

▸ The Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit).

▸ Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

▸ Child Tax Credit, if you have an annual taxable income (as assessed by H M Revenue and Customs) which does not exceed £16,190.
